Just gotta let the world know I have the coolest boss at my day job. Gave me this Redbox kiosk for free!

I was able to bypass the internal boot sequence and start it in safe mode, but it's pretty much locked down unless I reinstall windows or linux, but I don't want to wipe anything. Has important drivers and such, like the touchscreen, and probably code to run the internal servo motors.

I tried some workarounds from a discord group that is repurposing the kiosks, but most of it wasn't working for me. Can't even bring up the task manager even though I reenabled it using regedit. That, and it crashes shortly after booting into normal mode with the boot environment overrode with explorer.exe. Oh well, besides that everything is in good condition and still functions outside the actual Redbox software side of things.

The screen has both VGA and DVI inputs, and luckily I had an old DVI-to-HDMI cable lying around. Hooks up to the Steamdeck just fine, and looks amazing! Basically an instant arcade cabinet with a wireless controller.

Eventually I wanna do some kind of project with it, maybe an arcade cabinet, some kind of digital jukebox, A giant PC tower with RGB lights, or SOMETHING. In any case, it's gonna be stuck out it the garage for a while, so I'm hesitant to put a different PC in there.

Plus, there's no room in the house right now, so having any practical use is out of the question. It'll be winter soon, and I ain't gonna freeze standing out in the garage later this year. Just gonna have to clean it up and keep it safe until I have a good plan for it.

But man, this thing is cool.

Super cool stuff, man. Can't wait to see what you do with it. Your boss is awesome!

NOW I want my own Redbox kiosk...

Ohh, old eevice editing to run not-old-device stuff! Can it run Doom?

It is super cool ya got an internet connection and NG running on this thing tho, and steam deck too, congrats on that

It could definitely run Doom! I seen a video of someone playing it on one floating around somewhere. I just barely got a connection from the house to the garage, but yeah steam deck ran perfectly with it! Was able to just boot the deck into desktop mode and access the browser there for the NG pages

Finally, I can get my fix of smut flash parodies on the street

Me when
Me whe
Me when i forgor to return the copy of Friday Night Funkin to the kiosk

That is a massive find lad! You should paint it black with a Giant Newgrounds Decal slapped onto it!

@Ash1car he should decorate it like the NG soda machine from NGHQ

I only have one question

CAN
IT
RUN
D.O.O.M 93

It in fact can! There's a video floating around somewhere that had someone get it running!

what kind of job do you have, to get a free Redbox machine lol? but that is very cool.

Honestly, I just work fulltime at a small grocery store. The boss offered it to me before he hauled it to the scrap yard since he knew I liked messing with tech. I was pretty lucky!
